Meet Sadie Spider...

Nestled in the rolling hills of Cape Ability, lies Weaver’s Cottage.  This is where Sadie Spider lives, spending her days trying to catch those pesky little flies for her lunch, but it isn’t easy!

Through her story, Sadie shows how to keep going when things are difficult. She helps children change their mindset and have a more resilient attitude towards challenges in their life.

Why is Resilience Important?

Growth Vs Fixed Mindset

Does your child give up easily? Do they seem to lack the drive to see things through and persevere? Maybe they want you to do things for them when you would like them to be more determined to do it for themselves? This is where Sadie Spider can help. She shows through her story, how to keep going when things are difficult. She helps children change their mindset and have a more resilient attitude towards challenges.

Change Their Inner Voice Through Storytelling

Resilience can be described as the ability to work through difficulties, rather than giving up at the first sign of struggle. If a child is resilient they will keep trying when they find something tough. Children and adults will always encounter things they find difficult in life, whether it’s something difficult at school, or just learning to tie their shoe laces!

Being determined and resilient allows us to work through the difficulty, keep striving and ultimately succeed rather than give up and fail.

How Does Sadie Teach Resilience?

Previous
Next

Sadie shows such a resilient little spirit when she keeps trying to make a successful web. She models true grit and has the mantra, ‘Try, try, try!’ She expects to work hard and enjoys the process!

To help our children to understand this message, it is best to praise their effort, rather than their ‘cleverness’ or natural ability to do something. If we say, ‘You are trying so hard and you WILL get this,’ or ‘Look at your picture – you put so much effort into it,’ they will realise that success DEPENDS upon effort – practise makes progress!

All innovative people in history have developed this attitude of grit and resilience to overcome obstacles. Not only does resilience stop them from giving in but it also enables them to relish a challenge and strive to keep going in order to achieve it!

What Our Users Say…

Orla was so excited when she received her new book bundle! The books were so bold and vibrant; she couldn't wait to see the pictures inside. We read, 'Don't give up, Sadie Spider' first. The story was engaging and carried a clear simple message of not giving up. It is clever how each book involved characters from other books in Cape Ability. I definitely recommend these books to read with your child.

Ryan - Orla's Dad

We already have Bobby bee, Tommy turtle and Cooper crab, my 5 year old absolutely adores these books. We like them so much we’ve ordered 4 more. The quality of the books is amazing, easy to hold for both adults and children. The details in the pictures is so good, you can tell time and effort has gone into each one. We can't wait for the next in the series to come out!

Selina - Parent to two lovely girls

Our 4 year old has absolutely loved reading about the journeys of Cooper, Sadie & Bobby. He has 2 books at bedtime and he always chooses to have the Cape Ability book twice! We are very excited to meet the rest of the Cape Ability gang! 🕷🐝 🦀

Support Your Child's Mental Health with Cape Ability

Cape Ability was created by a Primary School Teacher with over 20 years experience.  Our stories really speak to little minds, with each motivational character teaching children to develop a healthy inner voice. Each beautifully illustrated book has a guiding principle which is demonstrated by a key character throughout the story.

The books help develop a shared language between parent and child, allowing you to help them through life’s little challenges.

We live in an uncertain and changing world.  At Cape Ability, we believe every child should be equipped with an inner voice that helps them to stay happy and healthy.
